DIY Privacy Fence

DIY privacy fenceRecently, I had to tear up a deck to replace the roof membrane below it because it was old and leaking.  As part of that project, the deck railing and privacy fence also had to be torn down.  When the new deck went back on (after the roof was fixed), I decided to upgrade the privacy fence because, well, it wasn’t that private.

Let’s face it, whether you like your neighbors or not, you probably don’t want to be staring at each other while sitting out on your decks on a warm evening.  When looking for ideas for a new privacy fence, I turned to Google and I was disappointed with what I found.  In my mind, a privacy fence made with lattice isn’t a privacy fence at all – lattice is a more of a screen; in other words, full of holes.

Since I couldn’t find anything I liked on Google images, I came up with a really simple, inexpensive and super private privacy fence that I also think looks great.  So here it is: Read more »

Repairing A Faux Wood Beam

hole in beam 345x180I like wood beams; they’re interesting and add character.  They’re not always practical to install into your existing decor and I’m sure they are expensive to buy.  As a result, some people build faux wood beams from regular boards; a good compromise.

Most people don’t; to be honest, I might be guilty of the same infraction.  At the very least, I think about checking it!  If your dryer exhaust venting has been installed correctly, you’re probably in good shape.  However, many vents are not installed correctly which can lead to a potentially deadly situation, or at the very least, increase your energy consumption. A sticky situation
