Recently, I had to tear up a deck to replace the roof membrane below it because it was old and leaking. As part of that project, the deck railing and privacy fence also had to be torn down. When the new deck went back on (after the roof was fixed), I decided to upgrade the privacy fence because, well, it wasn’t that private.
Let’s face it, whether you like your neighbors or not, you probably don’t want to be staring at each other while sitting out on your decks on a warm evening. When looking for ideas for a new privacy fence, I turned to Google and I was disappointed with what I found. In my mind, a privacy fence made with lattice isn’t a privacy fence at all – lattice is a more of a screen; in other words, full of holes.

I like wood beams; they’re interesting and add character. They’re not always practical to install into your existing decor and I’m sure they are expensive to buy. As a result, some people build faux wood beams from regular boards; a good compromise.
